Jang Yeon-ju, Gwangju City Council Member, "Public Late-Night Pharmacies Should Be Expanded"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jang Yeonju, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Justice Party), emphasized the need to expand public late-night pharmacies.
On the 4th, Councilor Jang asked during the administrative audit of the Gwangju Welfare and Health Bureau whether measures were being prepared to expand public late-night pharmacies.
Gwangju City enacted the Gwangju Public Late-Night Pharmacy Support Ordinance in 2018 and currently designates and supports the operation of two pharmacies, one each in Buk-gu and Seo-gu.
During last year's administrative audit, Councilor Jang proposed to grasp the current status of late-night pharmacy operations and the actual conditions of users, and to establish an expansion plan from the perspective of expanding public healthcare.
Councilor Jang stated, “Most citizens using public late-night pharmacies are workers who work late at night, and if they get injured or sick, the only place they can go is the emergency room, which leads to excessive emergency room medical expenses. Therefore, plans to actively expand public late-night pharmacies must be prepared.”
In response, Lee Dalju, Director of the Gwangju Welfare and Health Bureau, replied, “We are currently investigating the usage status and satisfaction of citizens, and the budget for next year has been reflected to expand to five districts next year.”
