Gwangju Fire Department: No Issues with Fire Truck Dispatch Amid 'Urea Solution Shortage' Crisis
Securing Usage Volume for 120 Vehicles Using Diesel Exhaust Fluid for Over 6 Months
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 4th that although a urea solution shortage crisis occurred due to China recently banning the export of urea solution, the usage amount has been secured enough so that there will be no problems in dispatching fire and ambulance vehicles for the time being.
Gwangju Fire Department conducted an emergency inspection of its own urea solution stock and confirmed that it has secured more than six months' worth of usage.
Among the 248 vehicles operated by the fire stations, 221 are diesel vehicles, and among these, 120 diesel vehicles, which account for 48% of the total, operate by injecting urea solution.
The existing stock of urea solution is 3,460 liters, and considering the average monthly usage of 450 liters, it is possible to use it for at least six months.
However, the Fire Safety Headquarters plans to continuously prepare measures to secure urea solution in cooperation with local gas stations, urea solution wholesale and retail businesses, etc., in case the domestic supply shortage of urea solution prolongs.
Go Minja, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “We are preparing various measures in consultation with related organizations such as the Fire Agency to ensure that there are no problems in dispatching fire vehicles due to the shortage of urea solution supply,” and added, “We will prepare so that there is no disruption in fire force dispatch under any circumstances.”
