Gold Medalist Famous Boxer Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Harassment
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] An Asian Games boxing gold medalist has been tried on charges of sexual harassment and sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial. He is accused of touching a woman’s body while dining together. During the trial, he denied the charges, claiming he was only "defending himself," but the court did not accept this.
On the 4th, Judge Im Kwangho of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 20 sentenced Moon Mo (58), who was indicted on charges of forcible molestation, to six months in prison and ordered his detention in court. Moon was also ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program.
Moon was prosecuted for molesting Ms. A on June 3 at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, causing sexual shame or disgust. It is known that Moon was having dinner with acquaintances, including Ms. A, at the time.
During the trial, Moon claimed that the incident occurred "in the process of defending against Ms. A’s actions." However, the court explained, "The victim testified specifically without exaggeration, including details that only someone who actually experienced it would know," and "the content confirmed by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene matches the victim’s testimony." The court further pointed out, "The defendant committed the crime openly in a public place without hesitation, showing a very bad nature of the crime, and the victim appeals for severe punishment, expressing feelings of humiliation, shame, and mental suffering."
