Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok: "We Will Actively Support Youth for a Future with Hope"
Youth Special Lecture at Suncheon University on the 3rd... Introduction to Provincial Government Performance and Youth Policies
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, stated on the 3rd at the 70th Anniversary Hall of Suncheon National University during the ‘Jeollanam-do Governor Invitation Special Lecture’ that “We will actively support a life with a future for young people.”
The lecture was held under the theme ‘Achievements of the 7th Local Government and Suggestions for Youth,’ with about 100 attendees including Suncheon National University students and faculty, leading to a lively discussion.
Governor Kim detailed the changes in Jeonnam since the 7th local government, youth policies, and shared insights from his childhood and public service career, presenting a step-by-step path for the youth to follow.
Key achievements of the 7th local government include ▲ the proclamation of the ‘Blue Economy·Jeonnam-type New Deal’ vision and expansion of Jeonnam’s future growth engines through an era of 11 trillion won budget ▲ resolution of long-standing wishes of residents through the enactment of the Yeosu·Suncheon 10·19 Incident Special Act ▲ establishment of a future new growth industry base by attracting the Suncheon NHN Cloud Data Center, among other accomplishments that contributed to Jeonnam’s development and residents’ demands.
Governor Kim candidly shared the difficulties and challenges he faced during his youth, 27 years of public service, activities as a member of the National Assembly, and tenure as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, urging young people to “challenge vigorously with youthful spirit even in the face of failure and setbacks.”
He also said, “To lighten the heavy burdens of young people and support a hopeful and future-oriented life, we are providing 291.6 billion won through 94 policies including scholarships, jobs, housing, education, and welfare,” adding, “We will continuously discover and implement tangible youth policies to create a Jeonnam that young people dream of.”
During the Q&A session, a current student at Suncheon National University asked, “What should I do as a member of society when preparing for employment?”
In response, Governor Kim advised, “Unlike past generations, the current generation faces fewer job opportunities, which is painful. Challenging fields that others do not pursue, such as agriculture, can also be meaningful.”
Suncheon National University, founded in 1935, is a cradle for nurturing talent representing Jeonnam with over 80 years of history.
