Suncheon-si Byeollyang-myeon Administrative Welfare Center Remodeled as Nation's First Carbon-Neutral Public Office
Selected for Ministry of Environment-led Public Sector Carbon Neutrality Contest, Securing 500 Million KRW in National Funding
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 3rd that it will remodel the Byeollyang-myeon Administrative Welfare Center into a carbon-neutral public building by December next year.
The city was finally selected in the Ministry of Environment’s “Public Sector Carbon Neutral National Subsidy Support Project” competition and will proceed with the project with a total budget of 1 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW in national funds.
The “Public Sector Carbon Neutral National Subsidy Support Project” is a project by the Ministry of Environment that supports carbon neutrality by improving energy efficiency and installing renewable energy in buildings owned by institutions subject to the public sector target management system. The “Byeollyang-myeon Administrative Welfare Center Green Remodeling” project was the first of its kind nationwide for an administrative welfare center at the myeon (township) level.
Through green remodeling, solar panels, high-performance windows, high-efficiency equipment, and shading devices will be installed in the Byeollyang-myeon Administrative Welfare Center building to minimize energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using self-produced renewable energy for the required energy.
The building’s cooling and heating loads will be reduced to save electricity usage, and by using self-produced electricity, it will take the lead in realizing carbon neutrality in public buildings.
