[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Pastry chefs with developmental disabilities sponsored by POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) held a ‘Bread Bread Sharing Day’ event, sharing handmade bread and cookies with the local community, spreading warmth.
The ‘Bread Bread Sharing Day’ took place from 8 a.m. on the 3rd at the central entrance of Gwangyang City Hall. Carefully packaged bread, cookies, and beverages were provided to the first 300 Gwangyang City Hall employees and visitors arriving for work.
The pastry chefs who made the bread and cookies shared today are trainees of the ‘Seosan Narae Developmental Disabilities Pastry Chef Professional Training Program,’ supported by the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority since April. They are actively participating in classes to confidently grow together as members of the local community.
Gwangyang Steelworks, as a ‘corporate citizen developing together with the community,’ is promoting this project to expand social participation of people with developmental disabilities in the region. They provide systematic and professional pastry training at the Gwangyang City Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Facility ‘Seosan Narae,’ linking it to employment of outstanding trainees.
A representative who participated in the event said, “We hope you enjoy the bread and cookies made with care by the trainees of the developmental disabilities pastry chef professional training program,” adding, “The bread made together with our trainees is sold at Seosan Narae, so we hope many will use it in the future.”
A city hall employee who received bread and cookies said, “We are truly grateful for the bread and cookies made for us,” and added, “Thanks to this, I think I can start the day happily.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks held the 4th launch ceremony of the Hope Stepping Stone Project with related organizations last October and is actively working to realize a company that coexists with the local community by presenting a model where companies and society develop together. They operate various healing programs for 133 children with severe disabilities until September 2022.
