[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Choi Hyun-soo, CEO of the comprehensive paper company Kkaekkeutan Nara, received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation in the field of reading publishing and printing promotion on the 1st.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a commemorative ceremony at the Press Center to celebrate the '56th Magazine Day' and awarded government honors to those who contributed to the development of magazines. Kkaekkeutan Nara was recognized for its contribution to solving environmental issues faced by the magazine industry and received the award.
Kkaekkeutan Nara operates a paper business based on resource circulation, producing cardboard using old paper as raw material. By applying waste magazines to the manufacture of white cardboard, it prevents the waste of mountain resources caused by incineration and landfill of waste magazines, and secures a stable raw material for white cardboard, achieving two goals at once.
As of June 2021, Kkaekkeutan Nara recycles 4,800 tons of magazines annually, which accounts for about 22% of the total annual magazine publication volume in Korea. Recently, under the 2021 management goal of 'Strengthening ESG Management,' Kkaekkeutan Nara expanded dedicated lines and facilities for this project. Through this, it has established a system that enables recycling, further promoting resource circulation and strengthening ESG management.
