The 2021 season Bear Trophy competition on the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour is heating up. It seems to be narrowing down to a rivalry between Jeon In-ji (27, KB Financial Group) and Lydia Ko (New Zealand). As of the 2nd (Korean time), Nelly Korda (USA, 69.07 strokes), Ko Jin-young (26, 69.19 strokes), and Park In-bi (33, KB Financial Group, 69.53 strokes) rank 1st to 3rd in average strokes, but all have played fewer than 60 rounds. Even if they participate in the remaining two tournaments, they will fall short of the calculation standard (70 rounds).
It is virtually a showdown between 4th place Lydia Ko (69.62 strokes) and 5th place Jeon In-ji (69.79 strokes). Lydia Ko has completed 65 rounds, lacking 5 rounds. She can make up for this by participating in the Pelican Championship (November 11-14) and the CME Group Tour Championship (November 18-21). Originally, she was scheduled to participate in the European Ladies Professional Golf Tour (LET) Aramco Team Series held in Saudi Arabia during the same period, but she changed her mind.

Golfweek USA explained, "Lydia Ko was unaware that she could not become the number one in average strokes if she did not participate in the Pelican Championship," adding, "After playing in the first week of November at the LET Aramco Saudi Ladies International, she decided to move to the U.S. to compete in the Pelican Championship." Rookie of the Year in 2016, Jeon In-ji, also swept the average stroke title that year. Assuming Lydia Ko maintains her current stroke average, she needs to shoot about 68 strokes on average over the remaining 8 rounds to overturn the standings.
