[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjun, Golf Specialist] "Men 377m, Women 254m."
The preliminary results of the 'Saemangeum National Long Drive Competition,' hosted by real estate development company Jakwang Co., Ltd. on the 6th at a special venue next to the Saemangeum Promotion Center in Buan-gun, Jeonbuk. From September 18th, over five weeks, a total of 58,000 participants?40,000 men and 18,000 women?competed at 1,130 SG Screen Golf locations nationwide. Although these indoor records are unaffected by wind and temperature, it is interesting that they surpassed the 376m long drive hit by "The Hulk" Bryson DeChambeau (USA) at a recent long drive event in Nevada, USA.
Currently, 32 amateur golfers?16 men and 16 women?have advanced to the finals. The special venue was created on the Saemangeum reclaimed land, measuring 400m in length and 120m in width. Competitors hit five drives within three minutes, with the top eight advancing to the second tournament. Then, the final rankings are decided by four shots within two minutes. Naturally, the variable factor is the direction and strength of the wind. The total prize money is 100 million KRW, with 20 million KRW for the winner and 10 million KRW for the runner-up.
