K-Battery Industry Declares 'Battery Industry Day'... Samsung SDI President Jeon Young-hyun Awarded Gold Tower Industrial Medal
Significant Increase in Battery Industry Award Scale and Honor Levels
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Battery Industry Association (KBIA) celebrated its 10th anniversary by designating "Battery Industry Day" to commemorate the achievements and status of the secondary battery (battery) industry, a national new growth industry, and held an awards ceremony for contributors to the secondary battery industry.
On the 1st, KBIA announced that it declared the establishment of "Battery Industry Day" and held related events including an awards ceremony at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas Orchid Room. The event was attended by KBIA Chairman Jeon Young-hyun (President of Samsung SDI), representatives of member companies, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Director Ju Young-jun, and 25 award recipients.
At the proclamation ceremony for "Battery Industry Day," KBIA Chairman Jeon Young-hyun stated, "Our country's battery industry exported $7.5 billion last year, and domestic companies' production value surpassed $20 billion, becoming one of the nation's key industries. Currently, the order backlog stands at 370 trillion won, and we hold the world's number one market share."
The event began with the proclamation of "Battery Industry Day (November 1)" to raise public interest in the battery industry and boost the morale of industry workers, aiming for the continuous development of the secondary battery industry.
Following this, an awards ceremony was held for 25 contributors to the secondary battery industry. At the ceremony, a total of 25 awards were presented, including the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit awarded to Samsung SDI President Jeon Young-hyun.
The secondary battery industry is recognized not only for its global number one international status but also as a representative industry that successfully strengthened competitiveness in materials, parts, and equipment in response to Japan's export restrictions. Due to this symbolic significance, the scale and rank of awards have significantly increased this year. Notably, Samsung SDI was selected for the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, awarded for the first time to the secondary battery industry this year.
Two Industrial Service Merit awards were given to Kim Do-hyung, Executive Director of POSCO Chemical, who contributed to export expansion through the development of multiple anode and cathode materials, and Lim Dong-jun, Chairman of Korea Umicore, who leads the global market through cathode material development and mass production. Park Sun-hong, Head of Research at L&F, and Lee Soo-haeng, Head of SK IE Technology, received the Presidential Citation, while Lee Sang-min, Center Director of Korea Battery Research Institute, Park Heon-su, Senior Researcher at Daewoo Electronic Materials, and Son Beom-seok, Senior Researcher at Dongwha Electrolite, were awarded the Prime Minister's Citation.
