Gochang-gun Launches Emergency Duty System for Autumn Wildfire Prevention

The county has deployed 41 specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel and 56 monitors to establish a wildfire prevention and initial suppression system. To ensure early suppression of wildfires, it is operating a leased wildfire suppression helicopter and activating 10 wildfire monitoring unmanned cameras.

Since most autumn wildfires occur due to mountain climbers and herbal gatherers entering the mountains, a wildfire prevention campaign will also be conducted focusing on mountain climbers at the entrances of major hiking trails.

In addition, entry will be restricted in 8,294 hectares of wildfire-prone areas and 60 km of 10 hiking trail routes.

If you plan to hike, first check the possibility of entry on the county website before entering, and do not carry flammable materials such as lighters.

Using specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel and wildfire monitors, acts such as burning rice paddies, fields, and garbage in forest or forest-adjacent areas will also be cracked down on.

Since last year, with the implementation of the fine dust seasonal management system, all burning has been prohibited, and removal of flammable materials in forest-adjacent areas is being carried out through the operation of wood chippers and mowing work.

Vehicle broadcasts and village broadcasts through heads of each town and township will be conducted to proactively prevent causes of wildfires.

A county official said, “If you discover a wildfire, immediately report it to 119 or the county office and town or township offices, and actively take interest in making Gochang-gun free of wildfires.”
