According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 31st, vaccinations for 12?15-year-olds who made reservations starting from the 18th will begin on the 1st of next month. High school seniors (grade 3) began receiving COVID-19 vaccinations in July, followed by a sequential expansion of vaccinations to children and adolescents aged 12?17 starting from the 18th of this month. Among them, the 16?17 age group was the first to start vaccinations on the 18th.
As of midnight the previous day, the reservation rate for 12?15-year-olds was somewhat low at 26.4% (493,055 people), but since reservations continue until the 12th of next month, the rate may increase further. Those aged 12?15 who have completed reservations will receive the Pfizer vaccine at designated medical institutions from the 1st to the 27th of next month.
However, there is a possibility that the vaccination reservation rate among adolescents may be affected following a report to health authorities that a teenage male, presumed to be a high school senior, died after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. According to authorities, this male received the Pfizer vaccine on August 13 and was reported to have died on the 27th of this month, 75 days later. The Promotion Team stated, "This is the first reported case of death after vaccination in a teenager," and added, "The connection to vaccination has not yet been established." Health authorities recommend COVID-19 vaccination for children and adolescents with underlying conditions, but for those without such conditions, vaccination is left to individual choice.

From the 8th of next month, additional vaccinations will be administered to Janssen vaccine recipients, and from the 10th, to residents and workers of nursing hospitals and facilities. From the 15th, additional vaccinations will be given to workers in medical institutions at hospital level or higher, people in their 50s, those with underlying conditions, and priority occupational groups (police officers, military personnel, etc.). Those eligible for additional vaccinations can check the type of vaccine, such as Pfizer or Moderna, during the vaccine pre-reservation. However, on the day of vaccination, the medical institution may change the vaccine to another within the recommended range.
