Strengthening On-Site Response Capabilities in Large-Scale Disasters
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 29th that it conducted an unscheduled drill of the Emergency Rescue Control Team in the main conference room of the Western Fire Station to strengthen on-site response capabilities in the event of a large-scale disaster.
The drill was conducted simultaneously in 19 cities and provinces nationwide the previous day under the supervision of the National Fire Agency.
Assuming a large-scale fire disaster situation, Response Level 2 was issued, and it was evaluated whether the operational personnel responded appropriately to the situation messages assigned by time.
In particular, to respond appropriately to changes in the disaster situation, the focus was placed on situation assessment meetings to ▲ cooperate with related organizations according to the situation ▲ accommodate and manage evacuees in the affected areas ▲ classify casualties and transport them to local medical institutions.
Kim Young-il, head of the city’s Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Division, said, “The scale of damage can vary depending on how the initial response is handled when a disaster occurs,” adding, “We will strengthen the capabilities of the Emergency Rescue Control Team through continuous training to perform the role of protecting citizens’ safety with swift and appropriate responses in disaster situations.”
