According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team as of 4 p.m. on the 29th, the number of people who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was 41,081,22. This accounts for 80.0% of the domestic population (51,349,116 as of last December).
Among the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries, as of the 24th of this month, only four countries?Portugal, Iceland, Spain, and Chile?have a first-dose vaccination rate exceeding 80%. According to the Promotion Team, South Korea became the fifth country to achieve an 80% first-dose vaccination rate.
The domestic first-dose vaccination rate reached 50% on August 21. After surpassing 70% on the 17th of last month, it rose to 80% in about a month.
As of 4 p.m. on the same day, the domestic COVID-19 vaccination completion rate was recorded at 74.3%. Among OECD countries, only Portugal and Iceland have vaccination completion rates exceeding 80%. Jeong Eun-kyung, head of the Promotion Team, emphasized, "To minimize damage caused by COVID-19 and establish a daily life that safely coexists with the virus, participation in vaccination and adherence to quarantine guidelines are important."
Currently, new vaccinations for children, adolescents, and pregnant women, as well as additional vaccinations (booster shots), are underway domestically. From 8 p.m. on the 28th, advance reservations for booster shots for Janssen vaccine recipients began. By 1 p.m. on the same day, a total of 506,673 people had applied for additional vaccinations. This means that 34.2% of the 1,482,519 Janssen vaccine recipients have made reservations. Janssen vaccine recipients will begin receiving booster shots from the 8th of next month.
