Gwangju Seo-gu, Career-Interrupted Women Complete 'Gender Equality Academy'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 29th that it held a completion ceremony for the ‘Gender Equality Academy Training Course’ at the Seo-gu Office to train career-interrupted women as gender equality education instructors for infants and young children.
The Gender Equality Academy was conducted over two months (a total of 8 sessions, 51 hours) starting last month, targeting career-interrupted women holding early childhood education-related certificates.
The main contents included ▲Understanding adult awareness and gender equality education in infancy and early childhood ▲Reviewing gender equality perspective picture books for infants and young children ▲Preparing gender equality lecture plans and teaching aids ▲Lecture demonstrations and feedback.
Through this academy, a total of 10 gender equality instructors were produced.
They will work as instructors responsible for gender equality education for infants and young children at local daycare centers, community child centers, small libraries, and other places in the district.
One participant said, “It was a valuable time to acquire practical capabilities through systematic education necessary for gender equality education for infants and young children, including theoretical education and practice,” and added, “Afterwards, we plan to form a study group with other graduates to give and receive feedback and strengthen our capabilities as instructors.”
Seo Dae-seok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “Since gender equality education is important during early childhood when gender role concepts are formed, I ask you to actively work to improve infants’ and young children’s sensitivity to gender equality as gender equality instructors,” and added, “We will continue to actively support women to learn the value of gender equality independently and grow as gender equality experts in the local community.”
