Production Decline in Gwangju in September... Consumption and Investment on the Rise
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] In September, consumption and investment increased in the Gwangju area, while production decreased.
The Honam Regional Statistics Office announced the industrial activity trends on the 29th.
According to this data, the manufacturing production index was 88.9, a 14.8% decrease compared to the same month last year.
The seasonally adjusted production index was 94.6, down 2.1% compared to the previous month.
By major industry sectors, automobiles (-32.6%), electrical equipment (12.9%), and rubber and plastics (-8.5%) decreased.
The large retail store sales index was 100.2, an increase of 3.6%. Department stores rose 21.4% as shoes, clothing, and bags sold well, while large marts declined 13.3% due to sluggish food and beverage sales.
Construction orders amounted to 360.2 billion KRW, an increase of 38.6%.
By client, the public sector increased by 346.6% year-on-year due to growth in public enterprises and local governments, and the private sector rose 29.5% year-on-year due to increases in real estate and other industries.
By construction type, the building sector increased 50.8% year-on-year due to growth in housing and other buildings, while the civil engineering sector decreased 64.4% year-on-year due to declines in land development and landscaping works.
