[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] China strongly protested after China Telecom's operating license was revoked in the United States.
On the 28th, according to China Central Television (CCTV), Su Zheting, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, criticized the decision by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) during an afternoon briefing, stating, "The U.S. measure is an abuse of the national security concept to maliciously suppress Chinese companies," and called it "an act that destroys the cooperative atmosphere between the two sides."
He added, "China strongly protests to the United States, and the U.S. side must correct its mistake," and "China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies."
Earlier, on the 26th (local time), the FCC decided to revoke the operating license of China Telecom America, a subsidiary of China Telecom in the U.S., citing national security threats.
