'Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage' Bongdong Ginger, Harvest in Full Swing
Full-scale shipments from Nakpyeong and Sinseong-ri in Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun... Direct sales event also to be held on the 12th of next month
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun announced on the 28th that Bongdong native ginger, a 'National Important Agricultural Heritage,' is being shipped in full swing ahead of the kimchi-making season.
Bongdong ginger, the representative crop of Bongdong, is characterized by its high juice content and plump flesh, giving it a rich taste and aroma.
It is also widely used for medicinal purposes, kimchi seasoning, spices, and preserved fruit.
In particular, as Bongdong ginger, the first cultivation site in Korea, has been designated as a 'National Important Agricultural Heritage,' the status has been strengthened, and ginger farming households in Bongdong area such as Nakpyeong-ri and Sinseong-ri in Bongdong-eup are busy harvesting native ginger every day.
Accordingly, the Wanju Ginger Traditional Agricultural System Preservation Committee plans to hold a direct sales event for Wanju native ginger to further promote the excellence of Bongdong ginger.
From the 12th to the 15th of next month, it will be sold at 8,000 KRW per 1kg in Sinseong-ri, Bongdong-eup.
A committee official said, "The direct sales event is organized to promote the excellence of Bongdong native ginger and to increase the income of ginger farming households," and requested public interest.
