Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop: "Yoon Seok-yeol Comes to Get Egged but Will 'Not Respond'"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated that the response to Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party presidential primary candidate, visiting Gwangju to court the sentiments of Honam should be to remain unresponsive.
On the 28th, Mayor Lee appeared on TBS Radio and said, "Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol is visiting Gwangju while portraying himself as being oppressed, aiming to rally his support base."
He continued, "His remarks praising Jeon Du-hwan and his intention to come to Gwangju are merely an election strategy to secure a favorable position in the upcoming primary."
He also emphasized, "To use someone’s expression, he is coming to get egged and to be harassed. Some conservative politicians are trying to strengthen their position by using Gwangju, but the citizens of Gwangju will not fall for it."
Furthermore, he added, "In the Gwangju area, a mood has already formed to respond with no reaction, no interest, and no expression ? the so-called 'three no silences' ? and I will also urge the citizens to do the same. We sincerely hope Candidate Yoon does not come, but if he does, the police will provide thorough protection."
