[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] An incident occurred at a baekban restaurant in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, where a man caused a disturbance, accusing the restaurant of serving leftover food.
According to Yonhap News on the 27th, a customer identified as Mr. A, estimated to be in his 50s, visited a restaurant in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, around 1 p.m. on the 26th with one colleague and ordered two servings of baekban.
When the restaurant owner, Ms. B, served kongbiji jjigae (soybean pulp stew) and five side dishes, Mr. A reportedly threw chopsticks and a chair, saying, "Why is beef bone soup coming out of the kongbiji jjigae? Are you serving leftover food again?"
The restaurant explained, "We do not sell leftovers, and the beef bone was added to make a rich broth," but Mr. A insulted Ms. B, calling her a "damn [expletive]."
The incident was also captured on the restaurant's closed-circuit television (CCTV). The released footage shows Mr. A standing up, throwing a chair, and tossing a plate toward the back of the owner.
Feeling frightened, Ms. B fled outside the restaurant and asked a passing young man for help. After entering the restaurant together with the young man, Mr. A stopped the commotion and paid the 12,000 won bill, according to Ms. B.
