Justice Party: "The Corruption Investigation Office's Excessive Warrant Requests Cause Distrust... Must Risk Everything to Uncover the Truth Behind the Alleged Report Solicitation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Juyoun] The Justice Party criticized the recent court decision to dismiss the request for an arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) against Prosecutor Son Junsung, a key figure in the alleged report-for-hire scandal, stating that "citizens' distrust of the CIO has only increased."
On the 27th, Lee Dongyoung, the chief spokesperson of the Justice Party, said in a morning briefing, "The immediate request for an arrest warrant following the dismissal of the detention warrant was widely criticized as an 'overreach' by many, including legal circles," adding, "Ultimately, due to the CIO's inadequate investigation and excessive warrant request, not only has the report-for-hire scandal failed to be clarified, but citizens' distrust of the CIO has only grown."
Lee emphasized, "Citizens looking at the incompetent CIO, which lacks both capability and investigative will, feel only a sense of self-disgust, questioning why the CIO was even established," and sharply criticized, "In short, the CIO has lost both the crab and the flatfish." He added, "The CIO must now prove its investigative ability and will to uncover the truth, rather than conducting showy investigations."
Lee also criticized, "The presidential race has turned into a 'dislike contest' due to the Daejang-dong and report-for-hire scandals involving prominent presidential candidates from both ruling and opposition parties," and stated, "We cannot overlook the presidential race, which is descending into a wasteful confrontation between camps and political distrust. The truth behind the report-for-hire scandal must be thoroughly investigated before the presidential election."

We urge the CIO to conduct a strong and swift investigation."
