Baek Geon-woo Files Damage Claim Against PD Notebook "Yoon Jeong-hee's Sibling Withdraws 2.1 Billion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Pianist Baek Gun-woo has filed a mediation request with the Press Arbitration Commission seeking a correction report and 1.1 billion KRW in damages against MBC's 'PD Notebook,' which alleged that he neglected his wife, actress Yoon Jeong-hee.
On the 25th, Baek Gun-woo issued a press release refuting the September 27th MBC broadcast titled 'PD Notebook - The Disappeared Actress, The Two Faces of Adult Guardianship,' stating that it was significantly different from the facts and that the reputations of himself and his daughter Baek Jin-hee were severely damaged. The claimed damages amount to 1 billion KRW for Baek Gun-woo and 100 million KRW for his daughter Baek Jin-hee, totaling 1.1 billion KRW.
He denied the 'PD Notebook' claim that he neglected Yoon Jeong-hee. Baek Gun-woo stated that after confirming Yoon Jeong-hee's wishes, they moved to Paris, France, and since relocating on May 1, 2019, she has been receiving treatment under the recommendation of her attending physician.
Baek Gun-woo said that the French court appointed him and his daughter Baek Jin-hee as guardians. He added, "Since Yoon Jeong-hee returned to Paris, she has been regularly undergoing hospital examinations and living peacefully under the care of nurses, caregivers, and her daughter."
In 'PD Notebook,' Yoon Jeong-hee's younger brother Son Byung-wook claimed, "I have not seen Yoon Jeong-hee for over two years. Even when I contact Baek Gun-woo, he does not disclose where my sister is." Baek Gun-woo rebutted, saying, "Son Byung-wook has visited Yoon Jeong-hee's home."
Baek Gun-woo stated, "All the 'PD Notebook' content alleging that I forcibly took Yoon Jeong-hee to Paris and neglected her is entirely false. Due to the broadcast of these incorrect claims, the reputations of Baek Gun-woo and Baek Jin-hee have been severely damaged, and we have suffered significant mental distress, so we seek correction and compensation for damages."
He also claimed that Yoon Jeong-hee's younger brother, who has managed his domestic performance fees since 1980, withdrew 2,143,591,154 KRW at will.
Baek Gun-woo said, "From a Hana Bank account newly opened in 2003, 322,401,661 KRW was withdrawn by 2009, and from a Kookmin Bank account opened in 2007, 1,821,189,493 KRW was withdrawn without my knowledge. I confirmed the total withdrawal of 2.1 billion KRW on March 28, 2019. The withdrawal details from 1980 to 2002 are unknown."
