Sagepole Baby Room Exceeds Lead Standard... Recall and Refund Measures Implemented
Results of the Korea Consumer Agency Survey
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lead exceeding the standard was detected in the coated paint of imported baby room products, prompting the seller to initiate a recall and refund.
According to the Korea Consumer Agency on the 26th, 'Petit Elin,' the importer and seller of the 'Sagepole Anyfit Wooden Baby Room,' decided to recall and refund all 6,771 units sold from November last year to August this year. A baby room is a product installed when infants begin crawling or walking to prevent safety accidents.
The Consumer Agency launched an investigation after receiving reports through the Consumer Injury Surveillance System that the paint coating on the surface of the product was peeling off and children had ingested it. The investigation revealed that the lead content in the paint was 693 mg/kg, more than seven times the standard (90 mg/kg), and voluntary corrective action was recommended to the importer and seller.
The importer and seller have stopped selling the product and decided to recall and refund products already sold (manufactured after January 2020). Products manufactured in 2018 and 2019 were found to meet the standards for harmful element content.
