Police Conduct Forensics on Yudonggyu's 'Thrown Phone'... Will They Identify the Last Caller?
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] On the 25th, the police conducted digital forensic work on the mobile phone of Yoo Dong-gyu, former Planning Director of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, who is one of the key figures in the Daejang-dong development lobbying and preferential treatment suspicion case in Seongnam City. Attention is focused on whether the last person Yoo contacted through the phone will be revealed.
The dedicated investigation team of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency carried out data recovery and analysis on the mobile phone for about 4 hours and 30 minutes in the afternoon, with Yoo’s lawyer present as an observer.
The mobile phone in question was recently used by Yoo but was thrown out of the window of his 9th-floor residence to conceal it when the prosecution conducted a search of his home on the 2nd of last month. Yoo’s side provided the phone password to cooperate with the investigation, so the data recovery and analysis proceeded relatively quickly.
The police expect that, since Yoo attempted to conceal the phone, there will be clues on the device that can clarify the Daejang-dong suspicion case. In particular, there is keen interest in who the last person Yoo called before throwing the phone away was.
