Two KBS President Candidates Withdraw... Remaining Process Proceeding Solely with Kim Eui-cheol
Tomorrow's 'Vision Presentation' Held
Nomination Proposed to President After Board Interview and Hearing
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Among the three candidates for the next KBS president, two have expressed their intention to withdraw, leaving Kim Ui-cheol, the current KBS Business President, as the sole candidate.
On the 22nd, KBS announced, "Im Byung-geol, KBS Vice President, and Seo Jae-seok, former KBS Director, have submitted letters of withdrawal from the presidential candidacy to the Board Secretariat."
The Board stated that Im Byung-geol withdrew due to controversy over attending graduate school while in office. However, the reason for Seo Jae-seok's withdrawal was not disclosed.
The KBS president is appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the board, and Kim Ui-cheol will proceed alone through the process of the board selecting the final candidate.
On the same day, the board announced that the vision presentation scheduled for the 23rd, in which candidates present their visions, will proceed as planned with only Kim Ui-cheol participating. The vision presentation is an event where the citizen participation group evaluates the candidates.
The remaining procedures include the final interview by the board on the 27th, after which the board will recommend the final candidate to the president, reflecting the evaluation results of the citizen participation group. The final candidate will then undergo a National Assembly confirmation hearing and other processes.
This is the first time since KBS introduced the 'citizen participation group' in 2018, where citizens evaluate and select the presidential candidates, that a sole candidate remains due to voluntary withdrawal of others.
