"Issue of Abstract Guidelines"
Minor Payment System Also Needs Improvement
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Lee Jae-hwan, CEO of One Store, responded to criticism that there are more harmful apps for teenagers compared to overseas application (app) market operators such as Google and Apple by stating, "We will supplement the screening guidelines."
CEO Lee Jae-hwan made this statement on the 21st when he appeared as a witness at the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee comprehensive audit.
Yoon Young-chan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out, "Compared to Apple App Store and Google Play Store, One Store contains many harmful contents," adding, "When searching for embarrassing terms like 'yadong' (porn) only on One Store, you can see a proliferation of harmful apps for teenagers."
He continued, "This is because the app screening guidelines are different," noting, "In the case of One Store, restricted content is vaguely described as 'not harming public morals,' but Google and Apple include more specific violation cases."
CEO Lee Jae-hwan said, "It was not intentional neglect, but the pointed-out parts were insufficient," and added, "We will review the screening guidelines again and quickly supplement them so that they are not lacking compared to competitors."
One Store also announced a plan to improve the loose minor payment system, which was pointed out by Democratic Party lawmaker Cho Seung-rae.
Previously, One Store informed that if a legal guardian consents to a minor's paid purchase 'once initially,' the payment consent period lasts until the child member withdraws from One Store. Once a parent consents to a paid purchase for the first time, the minor child could continue making paid purchases without any additional parental consent procedures.
