Jeongeup-si Accelerates Construction of Metropolitan Living Resource Recovery Center

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Gochang County, and Buan County in Jeonbuk are accelerating the construction of a wide-area living resource recovery center jointly promoted by the three regions.

According to the city on the 20th, the wide-area living resource recovery center construction project is a project to jointly build new recycling sorting facilities to replace the existing outdated ones in the three cities and counties.

The facility sorts recyclable resources such as glass bottles, plastics, and paper, with a capacity to sort 30 tons of recyclable waste per day.

The city is investing a total project cost of 10.2 billion KRW for construction, with Jeongeup City bearing 50% of the cost, and Gochang County and Buan County each bearing 25%.

In the future, the three cities and counties plan to prepare detailed operational plans such as operating expenses through a working-level council.

The wide-area living resource recovery center is currently 70% complete and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of next year.

Although there were issues with the supply of rebar materials due to the surge in raw material prices earlier this year, steel materials were secured in July, and the project is being promoted with the goal of normal operation in April next year.

Once completed, the wide-area living resource recovery center will facilitate resource recovery and recycling of glass bottles, plastics, and other materials through automated sorting systems such as bag openers, magnetic separators, and compactors.

Additionally, securing workspace is expected to greatly improve workers' working conditions by preventing poor working environments and safety accidents.

The city plans to sign a joint operation agreement among the three cities and counties after sufficient working-level consultations with Gochang County and Buan County for the efficient operation of the wide-area living resource recovery center.

A city official said, “We will do our best to stably process recyclable resources and provide citizens with a pleasant and clean urban environment,” adding, “We will seek recycling measures suitable for an eco-friendly ecological city.”
