[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said on the 16th, "'Boo-Ul-Gyeong Megacity' is not only the future vision of the region but also a promise of our community to develop the lives of all citizens evenly."
At the 42nd anniversary commemoration ceremony of the Bu-Ma Uprising held at the 3·15 Art Center in Changwon, Gyeongnam, Prime Minister Kim said, "During the Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising, the citizens of Gyeongnam and Busan fought as one, and even now, after the landscape has changed four times, that united spirit has not changed."
He emphasized, "With that very spirit, Busan and Gyeongnam are now opening a new chapter of balanced national development through the 'Boo-Ul-Gyeong Megacity'."
Prime Minister Kim promised, "We will work together with local governments to promote various joint cooperation projects such as the Northeast Asia logistics platform and the establishment of a hydrogen economy zone so that the Boo-Ul-Gyeong Special Local Government can become a leading model of Korea's super-regional cooperation."
He also stressed, "The Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising was the starting point where the seemingly unbreakable Yushin dictatorship was overthrown, and the small light of democracy that shone in the darkness spread like wildfire into people's hearts. We will continue efforts to further uncover the history of the Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising, which was erased from official memory, and to find the hidden truth."
Quoting the late Go Ho-seok, who brought the Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising to public attention with the words, 'Those who do not remember history will live it again,' he insisted, "The Bu-Ma Democratic Uprising must not remain in the past. It must be remembered as a living history close to us for a long time. This is the duty given to us who live on the dedication and sacrifice of those people."
