Assemblyman Heo Jong-sik: "National Pension Service Chairman's ESG Book Publication... Plagiarism of Newspapers and Reports"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] On the 13th, Heo Jong-sik, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that the ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) related book published by the National Pension Service was plagiarized from newspaper reports and government ministry reports.
Heo Jong-sik's office stated in a press release that after reviewing the book titled 'A New Path of ESG with the National Pension' published by the National Pension Service, it was found that a significant portion was plagiarized from newspapers and reports.
Heo said, "The content on page 163 about corporate win-win management and the part on page 267 regarding ESG evaluation criteria were taken from articles in two economic newspapers with only the endings of sentences changed, and a large portion from pages 268 to 271 was copied directly from economic newspaper articles."
He added, "The section on responsible investment on pages 285 to 286 was taken from a 2018 report by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family with only slight changes to sentence endings. None of these parts were cited in the references or disclosed their sources."
Kim Yong-jin, the director of the National Pension Service, was listed as the editor of the book.
In the preface of the book, Director Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank the staff of the National Pension Research Institute, Fund Management Headquarters, and Future Planning Division who participated in writing the manuscript."

Heo Jong-sik emphasized, "It is truly shameful that a state-owned enterprise managing one of the world's top three largest funds has inappropriately produced and distributed such a book in the market. The National Pension Service must immediately recall the book and apologize to the public."
