Separate Answer Sheets for This Year's CSAT Inquiry Section... Masks Must Be Lowered for Identity Verification
Separate Answer Sheets for Korean History and Inquiry Subjects in 4th Period from This Year
Proctors Must Check Identity with Masks Lowered... Non-Compliance Considered Cheating
Changing Order or Solving 4th Period Elective Subjects Simultaneously Constitutes Cheating
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] In this year's College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) held on November 18, answer sheets for the 4th period Korean History and Inquiry subjects will be provided separately. Mask-wearing will be mandatory again this year, and examinees must lower their masks when proctors verify their identity.
On the 13th, the Ministry of Education announced measures to prevent cheating in the 2022 CSAT. If cheating is detected during the exam, the examinee's test will be invalidated, or their eligibility to take the CSAT the following year may be suspended.
To prevent COVID-19, examinees must wear masks this year as well. Each exam room will accommodate 24 examinees, supervised by 2 to 3 proctors. Hallway proctors will use metal detectors to check for electronic devices carried by examinees.
Proctors will verify the identity of examinees and check whether they possess permitted watches during the exam. During the 1st and 3rd periods, identity verification will be conducted thoroughly with additional time. Examinees must cooperate by temporarily lowering their masks to allow facial verification upon the proctor's request; failure to comply will be considered cheating.
Last year, 232 cases of cheating were detected. The most frequent violation was improper conduct during the 4th period (111 cases), followed by possession of electronic devices (59 cases), writing answers after the end signal (52 cases), and others (10 cases).
During the 4th period inquiry subject time, examinees must place only the question booklet of the subject they selected on their desk and take the exam. Changing the order of selected subjects or placing multiple selected subject booklets simultaneously constitutes cheating and will invalidate the exam.
The Ministry of Education explained, "Examinees can check their selected subject list and test order on a sticker attached to their desk, so paying a little attention can prevent cheating."
Starting this year, answer sheets for Korean History and Inquiry subjects will be separated. The inquiry answer sheet is divided into answer sections for the 1st and 2nd selected subjects. Writing or modifying answers for the 1st selected subject during the 2nd subject's time is considered cheating. Here, answer modification refers to erasing existing answers with correction tape or writing new answers.
Possession of prohibited items in the exam room at any time, including breaks, will be treated as cheating if detected. Prohibited items include ▲mobile phones ▲smart devices (such as smartwatches) ▲digital cameras ▲electronic dictionaries ▲MP3 players ▲camera pens ▲electronic calculators ▲radios ▲portable media players ▲watches with communication/payment functions (Bluetooth, etc.) or electronic displays (LCD, LED, etc.) ▲electronic cigarettes ▲earphones with communication (Bluetooth) functions, and so on.
Permitted items include ▲identification cards ▲admission tickets ▲black computer sign pens ▲white correction tape ▲black pencils ▲erasers ▲mechanical pencil leads (black, 0.5mm) ▲analog watches with hour and minute hands (and second hand) ▲masks (subject to prior approval by proctors).
Textbooks, reference books, and past exam papers may be carried during breaks but will be considered cheating if found during the exam. Notebooks, personal mechanical pencils, spare marking pens, and ballpoint pens will be confiscated if carried during the exam.

The Ministry of Education and metropolitan/provincial education offices will operate an "Online CSAT Cheating Report Center" on their websites from two weeks before the exam until the exam day to receive reports of suspected cheating plans or observations. Detailed information about cheating will be included in the "Examinee Precautions" materials and distributed to education offices and related agencies nationwide in October.
