According to Gangjin-gun on the 13th, ‘The Shop 252 Yeongrang Birthplace,’ planned by the Poetry School Memorial Hall, received high evaluation in the Cultural Heritage Administration's ‘2021 Old House Ancestral Home’ contest and was selected as a sustainable cultural content project for next year, securing a project budget of 130 million KRW.
The Cultural Heritage Administration's local cultural heritage utilization project, promoted by the Poetry School Memorial Hall since 2012, operates resident-led programs such as the Yeongrang Birthplace Thursday Concert with resident curators, Yeongrang Sensibility Academy, Yeongrang Art School, Yeongrang Children's Poet School, and Yeongrang Birthplace Sarangbang Story Program. It has been evaluated as greatly contributing not only to creating the cultural heritage value of Yeongrang Birthplace (National Folk Cultural Property No. 252) but also to revitalizing local tourism.
In particular, this program is known as a premium content that was first registered in the Cultural Heritage Administration's ‘Hall of Fame’ among local governments nationwide in 2016.
County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “The cultural content of ‘The Shop 252 Yeongrang Birthplace’ received good evaluations in next year’s contest project as well, making Gangjin-gun’s cultural heritage utilization policy emerge as a role model for local governments nationwide,” and added, “The fact that we have been selected for the central government contest project for 11 consecutive years is above all the result of the support of the residents and the efforts of public officials.”
The ‘Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Project’ is a program that breaks away from the existing taxidermy-style cultural heritage protection policy and utilizes the historical meaning and value inherent in cultural heritage as educational, cultural, and tourism resources. It is a national project promoted by the Cultural Heritage Administration since 2008 to utilize cultural heritage as cultural content.
