[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Singer Choi Seongbong, who has been embroiled in allegations of faking cancer treatment, hinted at an extreme choice during a live broadcast, prompting paramedics to be dispatched.
Choi Seongbong conducted a YouTube live broadcast around 2 p.m. on the 12th at a location presumed to be near the Han River.
After remaining silent for a while, Choi Seongbong opened up, saying, "I am very sorry for causing controversy regarding recent issues. I admit to smoking and drinking. I have suffered from many malicious comments, which led to symptoms of panic and depression. I felt impulses toward extreme choices. I was suppressing those feelings."
He continued, "Since I was young, I struggled and tried hard to live somehow, but it didn’t go well. Now I am so exhausted that I can’t do anything anymore. I have really lived hard... I didn’t come here to seek sympathy," shedding tears.
Choi Seongbong repeatedly apologized, saying, "I am sorry for causing trouble," then added, "Rather than saying many things, I will bear and carry all the words that have been poured out," making a meaningful statement.
Under the video, Choi Seongbong left a message saying, "For several days, I have read countless comments like ‘Choi Seongbong, just die,’ ‘I’ll dig a hole for you to go into,’ and such, and I have been mentally very distressed due to tremendous pain and suffering."
About 16 minutes after the broadcast started, footage showed 119 paramedics arriving at the filming site, and the broadcast ended. It appears that a viewer who watched the broadcast reported it to 119.
Choi Seongbong, who gained recognition as the runner-up on tvN’s audition program 'Korea’s Got Talent Season 1' in 2011, revealed last May through a health checkup that he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, prostate cancer, and hypothyroidism.
However, YouTuber Lee Jin-ho, a former entertainment reporter, recently claimed that Choi Seongbong wore patient clothes purchased online and, despite being a colon cancer patient, was drinking and smoking, raising suspicions of faking cancer treatment.
In his YouTube broadcast, Lee pointed out, "It is hard to find typical side effects of chemotherapy such as hair loss or weight loss in Choi Seongbong," and added, "The patient clothes are also rarely used in university hospitals; usually, patient clothes clearly display the hospital name or logo."
Lee released a recorded phone conversation with Choi Seongbong on the 11th, in which Choi said, "Alcohol and cigarettes have been my friends since I was five years old. I am smoking even now while talking on the phone. It’s not good, but it’s my stubbornness," further fueling the suspicions.
In response to these allegations, Choi Seongbong previously posted his medical certificate on Instagram and rebutted, saying, "Lee doubted my cancer treatment and contacted me. I sent proof documents, but over time, he resorted to persuasion and intimidation."
Regarding the patient clothes, he explained, "They were gifts, and I wore them to prevent people from visiting the hospital." However, Lee claims that the medical certificate Choi presented is also fake.
