[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] The representatives of the United States and China on North Korea issues discussed the Korean Peninsula situation during a phone call, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 10th, Liu Xiaoming, China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, and Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, held a phone call on the 9th and agreed to continue communication.
This was about three months after their first call on July 6.
Representative Liu explained China's position on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and said, "The United States should pay attention to North Korea's legitimate and reasonable concerns, take concrete actions to create conditions for resuming dialogue, and do more for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."
In response, Representative Sung Kim said, "The United States is striving to resolve the Korean Peninsula issue through diplomatic means," and added, "We hope that dialogue and contact with North Korea will resume as soon as possible."
