58-Year Tradition 'Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival' Opens Online on the 8th
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The 'Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival,' which has established itself as a representative festival of South Korea beyond Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, will continue its 58-year history online.
Suwon City announced that it will release the main programs of the 58th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival from the 8th through online platforms such as the Suwon Cultural Foundation's YouTube channel.
As the festival continues online for the second year due to COVID-19, the city plans to offer diverse programs through various online platforms so that all citizens who have been waiting for the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival can enjoy the festival through videos.
The city will first post major performance videos on the Suwon Cultural Foundation's YouTube channel. Key videos include the talk concert "Story Concert Jeongjo Silgam," which features various stories about King Jeongjo; "Doran Doran Seolhwabotari," a puppet show telling old tales using Suwon's cultural resources; and "Uigwe Exploration Life," where experts in history, architecture, and other fields explore stories within the royal protocols (Uigwe).
The city will also release "Remembering the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival," a video record of the festival that began in 1964, on the Suwon Cultural Center's website.
The foreign YouTuber-led program "Nice to Suwon Hwaseong," which introduces and promotes Suwon Hwaseong, will be conducted live in various formats across eight channels from the 8th to the 10th.
Additionally, programs such as ▲ Seongnam Village Fitting Room ▲ Suwon Hwaseong Episode Photo Stories ▲ Bangguseok Suragan ▲ King Jeongjo's Gift: Crow Cannon Pottery allow citizens to participate using social media.
The "Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession," which recreates the Eulmyo Royal Procession to Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in 1795 for Queen Hye Gyeonggung Hong's 60th birthday, will also continue its history online. Highlight videos from 2016 to 2019 will be posted on the Suwon Cultural Foundation's YouTube channel starting from the 9th.
Traditional cultural performances from international sister cities invited to the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival can also be enjoyed with a single click. The 58th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival's online International Sister Cities Night, under the subtitle "One Click! World Performance Tour," will be screened on the Suwon International Exchange Center's website and YouTube. This offers an opportunity to watch traditional performances from 11 cities in 9 countries, including Hangzhou, Zhuhai, Kaohsiung, Asahikawa, Fukui, Toluca, Hai Duong, Cluj-Napoca, Freiburg, and Nizhny Novgorod.

A city official explained, "It is regrettable that we cannot hold a normal festival this year due to the spread of COVID-19, but we have prepared more diverse programs so that citizens can experience the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival more closely."
