Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct 'Intensive Crackdown' on Illegal Mountain Activities
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching an intensive investigation into illegal activities in mountainous areas.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 8th that from the 18th to the 27th of this month, they will conduct an intensive investigation into 'illegal activities in mountainous areas' to prevent illegal development and preserve forest resources within the province.
The investigation targets 26,622 plots (27.98 million㎡) suspected of mountain damage caused by the construction of buildings such as houses, factories, livestock barns, and warehouses within mountainous areas.
The investigation will be conducted through on-site inquiries and analysis of aerial images from the past five years.
The main inspection points include ▲illegal mountain land conversion without permission or using land for inappropriate purposes ▲installation of illegal facilities such as containers, structures, and livestock barns without permission ▲failure to comply with orders to dismantle illegal facilities or restore mountainous areas ▲unauthorized tree cutting, among others.
The province plans to take strong measures against detected illegal activities in accordance with related laws such as the Mountainous Area Management Act and the Forest Resources Act.
