[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun engaged in the first round of the '2021 Labor-Management Collective Bargaining' (introductory meeting) on the 6th at the district office's main conference room.
The introductory meeting lasted 30 minutes and proceeded in the order of opening declaration, introduction of negotiation committee members, progress report, greetings from the chief negotiators of both the institution and the union, explanation of negotiation demands, and commemorative photo, with 10 negotiation committee members from each side present.
Collective bargaining refers to the collective negotiations conducted by labor unions and employers to improve workers' working conditions and enhance their economic and social status.
The Yongsan District Branch of the Korean Government Employees' Union (Branch Chief Gong Hyun-joo) obtained legal union status in 2018, and through collective bargaining, signed the first collective agreement with the institution at the end of 2019. The existing collective agreement is valid for two years and applies until the end of this year.
For the new agreement, the branch conducted an executive committee meeting, a delegate meeting, and a member survey last month, and submitted the negotiation demands (including supplementary provisions totaling 148 articles) to the institution on September 15.
The district agreed on the negotiation procedures with the branch during a preliminary negotiation on the 1st and will continue with practical negotiations and collective agreement discussions until the end of the year.
Branch Chief Gong Hyun-joo said, "We hope the institution will actively cooperate so that employees can take pride in their work," adding, "We will strive to realize the members' demands as much as possible through the new agreement."
Yongsan District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun stated, "We will listen to the union's demands and reflect those that are legally possible to the fullest extent," and added, "We will sincerely engage in negotiations with the union to provide better services to the residents."
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il attended the opening ceremony of the 'Small Business and Microenterprise Leaders Academy' on the afternoon of the 7th at the district office's Tium Studio and delivered congratulatory remarks.
The Small Business and Microenterprise Leaders Academy is organized and operated by the Yeongdeungpo Small Business and Microenterprise Association to cultivate management capabilities of small businesses and microenterprises, providing online education on management strategies, labor knowledge, and more.
The district supports the activation of the Leaders Academy education and marketing activities to promote management stability for local small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs.
Mayor Chae said, "We will carefully manage support measures for small businesses and microenterprises at the forefront of the local economy and strive to realize Yeongdeungpo as a city that is good to work and do business in."
Seoul Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok attended a donation ceremony for support items in celebration of Senior Citizens' Day held at the mayor's office at 4 p.m. on the 7th with Jeonhan Ganggangsullae Co., Ltd.
Jeonhan donated about 1,000 food sets (beef bone soup, fried rice, cold noodles) worth approximately 10 million KRW, hoping to help elderly residents living alone in the area who are facing difficulties on Senior Citizens' Day.
The donated items will be distributed to low-income elderly residents in the area through the local community welfare council.
The event was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, Jeonhan CEO Noh Sang-hwan, Park Joon-seok, Secretary General of the Nowon Education Welfare Foundation, and others, proceeding with the delivery of goods and commemorative photos.
Mayor Oh said, "Despite the prolonged COVID-19 difficulties, we are always grateful for your continuous help to local residents," adding, "We will make sure that your precious kindness is used where it is most needed."
Inlab (CEO Son Seok-bong), a specialized company producing protective suits and gowns, donated 300 protective suits to Seongbuk District in Seoul.
Inlab representatives who visited Seongbuk District Office on the 1st said, "Even amid the crisis of COVID-19 resurgence originating from religious facilities, it is very impressive to see medical staff, administration, and residents unite and overcome it quickly," and added, "We donate protective suits hoping it will be a small help and encouragement."
Inlab, established in 2020, produces protective suits and gowns certified by the US FDA and KCS. Under the slogan "Products are different when people come first," it is continuously conducting social contribution projects for early COVID-19 containment.
Seongbuk District Mayor Lee Seung-ro emphasized, "This is a necessary sharing for medical staff working on the front lines of COVID-19," and presented a certificate of appreciation.
