Nationwide, 1,938 Confirmed Cases by 9 PM... 163 Fewer Than Previous Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] On the 7th, COVID-19 cases surged nationwide.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on that day, a total of 1,938 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide. This is 163 fewer than the 2,101 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Compared to 2,302 cases on the Thursday a week ago (September 30), this is 364 fewer cases.
The metropolitan area accounted for 1,475 cases (76.1%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 463 cases (23.9%). By city and province, Seoul reported 727 cases, Gyeonggi 620, Incheon 128, Gyeongbuk 77, Chungbuk 63, Chungnam 61, Gyeongnam 55, Daegu 41, Busan 34, Daejeon 31, Gangwon 30, Gwangju 25, Ulsan 15, Jeonnam 11, Jeonbuk 10, Jeju 9, and Sejong 1.
The previous day, after 9 PM, 326 additional cases were reported, closing at a final count of 2,427 cases.
The fourth domestic wave, which began in early July, has continued for over three months. Daily confirmed cases have remained in the four-digit range for 93 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases), and the 94th day will be on the 8th.
Looking at the new cases reported over the past week (October 1?7), the daily counts were 2,485 → 2,247 → 2,085 → 1,672 → 1,575 → 2,028 → 2,427, exceeding 2,000 cases on all but two days.
Regarding major infection cases, since the 30th of last month, a total of 27 people have tested positive related to workplaces and foreigners (second case) in southern Gyeonggi.
At a kindergarten located in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, 10 people including students and their families have tested positive and are undergoing treatment.
In Sejong city, seven people including students, families, and external instructors tested positive related to an elementary school, and at a high school in Cheongju, Chungbuk, at least 13 people including 11 students have tested positive, with the exact source of infection under investigation.
