Jinju City Unveils Monument Marking the 'Birthplace of Park Golf in Korea'

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam, held an unveiling ceremony for the monument marking the birthplace of Park Golf in Korea at Sangrakwon, a senior welfare town in Panmun-dong, on the 7th.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il, Jinju City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young, Jinju Sports Council Chairman Kim Taek-se, as well as Lee Geum-yong, President of the Korea Park Golf Association, Kim Young-jae, President of the Gyeongnam Park Golf Association, and Lim Hyung-taek, President of the Jinju Park Golf Association, among other officials.
Sangrakwon in Jinju opened in April 1999 and is a senior welfare town with a site area of 88,697㎡ and a total floor area of 2,376㎡. It consists of one above-ground floor and four buildings, housing various senior welfare facilities such as a restaurant, an informatization classroom, a library, a fitness room, a billiards hall, and a gateball field.
Recently, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, only the outdoor park golf course has been in operation.
The Sangrakwon Park Golf Course opened on June 1, 2000. It covers an area of 8,264㎡ with 6 holes, winding around the nearby Yangmasan Mountain. In Jinju, besides the Sangrakwon Park Golf Course, park golf courses have also been established in Chungmugong-dong at the Jinju Sports Complex, riverside embankments in Hadae-dong, and Songbaek-ri in Geumsan-myeon.

Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “Park golf is a safe sport that not only provides leisure and health management for the elderly but also allows three generations to enjoy together.” He added, “I hope the base of park golf will expand further so that many seniors can enjoy the unique charm of golf.”
