[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that it held a joint workshop with related organizations at Jinju Dongbang Hotel to attract the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the South Coast Southern Central Region.
This joint workshop was organized to establish a role-sharing and collaboration system through mutual sharing among related local governments and organizations to attract the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), scheduled to be held in November 2023, to the South Coast Southern Central Region.
The event was attended by 46 officials including Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il, Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member Seong Yeon-seok, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member Kang Moon-seong, Yeosu City Council member Baek In-sook, and Jinju City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young.
At the meeting, there was a discussion and consultation on the topics "Why COP28 in the South Coast Southern Central Region?" and "Strategies for successful attraction and the roles of each organization."
In his welcoming remarks, Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, "If the attraction of COP28 to the South Coast Southern Central Region is confirmed, it will become a global success model where local governments cooperate to realize carbon neutrality, along with harmonious development between Yeongnam and Honam regions, regional balanced development, and mutual growth."

Meanwhile, 12 cities and counties including Jinju, Sacheon, Hadong, Namhae, Goseong, and Sancheong in Gyeongnam, and Yeosu, Suncheon, Gwangyang, Goheung, Boseong, and Gurye in Jeonnam are cooperating for the joint attraction of COP28 to the South Coast Southern Central Region.
