Geochang Gajo Oncheon in Gyeongnam, 'Jisancheon' Natural Eco-friendly Stream Restoration Project Underway
Selected for the 2021 Nakdong River Basin Special Support Project Competition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that ‘Jisancheon,’ which runs through the center of Gajo Oncheon tourist area, has been restored as a nature-friendly ecological stream where nature and people coexist.
The county’s ‘Jisancheon Maintenance Project in Gajo Oncheon Tourist Area’ was finally selected in the 2021 Nakdong River Basin Special Support Project contest hosted by the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, receiving 350 million won from the watershed fund. The detailed design was completed in June this year, construction started in September, and maintenance is planned to be completed by the end of this year.
Through this project, the county created a waterfront space for rest and leisure by installing a 1.44 km riverside walking trail along Jisancheon and four stepping stone bridges connecting the trails. Seasonal flowers such as Shasta daisy, Coreopsis, and Iris, which harmonize with the natural scenery, will be planted around the walking trail.
Additionally, starting next year, the planting of seasonal flowers will be expanded upstream of Jisancheon, establishing it as a four-season tourist destination offering beautiful sights along with the Gajo Oncheon flower complex.
