"Enjoying a Proper Meal"... GS25 Sees Increase in Sales of Premium Lunchboxes
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] The proportion of high-priced lunchboxes priced over 5,000 won sold at convenience stores has significantly increased.
According to GS25 on the 7th, the sales proportion of lunchboxes priced over 5,000 won in the third quarter was 22.5% of the total. Compared to 7.5% in the third quarter of 2018, it has tripled in three years. This is analyzed as a gradual increase in demand for enjoying a proper meal with lunchboxes at convenience stores.
In fact, the sales proportion of "Jeongchansik Dosirak," referring to home-style lunchboxes containing six or more side dishes, increased from 53.5% in the third quarter of 2018 to 88% in the last third quarter.
GS25 launched the ‘Muljoahalkilmolradaneoneobwasseo Dosirak’ (I Put Everything Because I Didn’t Know What You’d Like Lunchbox), which gathers the 11 most preferred side dishes by customers. This lunchbox was created by selecting 11 popular side dishes through customer surveys from the top five best-selling lunchboxes, and the side dish weight alone is about 380g, more than twice that of a regular lunchbox.

A GS25 representative said, “With the recent increase in working from home and remote classes, home-cooked meals have increased, leading to a rise in preference for premium Jeongchansik Dosirak. GS25’s lunchbox, which gave birth to the new slang ‘Hyejaropda’ (meaning generous or value-packed), will play a leading role in creating a new convenience store food culture worthy of its reputation.”
