Professor Emeritus Song Cheol of Seoul National University Awarded Ilseok Language Award
The Ilseok Korean Language Thesis Award is given to Cheon Gwan Chao for 'A Study on Korean Repetitive Phrases'
The Ilseok Academic Foundation announced on the 6th that it has selected Professor Emeritus Song Cheol-ui of Seoul National University as the recipient of this year's Ilseok Korean Language Award. Professor Song, who served as the director of the National Institute of the Korean Language, graduated from the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Seoul National University and earned his doctorate from the same university's graduate school. He primarily researches phonology, morphology, and the modernization process of the Korean language and literature, and has authored works such as "A Study on the Formation of Derivatives in Korean," "17th Century Korean Dictionary," "Language and Literature in Early Modern Korea," and "Language and Literature in Korea during the Japanese Colonial Period." The award ceremony will be held on the 9th at the Ilseok Memorial Hall in Jongno-gu. The Ilseok Academic Foundation was established in 2002 with the endowment of former Seoul National University professor Ilseok (一石) Lee Hee-seung (1896?1989), who dedicated himself to Korean linguistics research. Every year, the foundation awards the Ilseok Korean Language Award and the Ilseok Korean Language Thesis Award. This year's Ilseok Korean Language Thesis Award goes to Mr. Cheon Gwan-chao (陳冠超) for his thesis titled "A Study on Korean Reduplicative Constructions."
