Showing Various Programs Under the Theme 'Connecting Our Hangeul and Nuri'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is holding the 'Hangeul Week' event from the 4th to the 10th in celebration of the 575th Hangeul Day (the 9th). Under the theme 'Our Hangeul, Connecting the World,' various programs will be presented online. On terrestrial broadcasting, on the 4th, 'Our Language Contest (KBS1)' will air, followed by the Hangeul Day commemorative broadcasts 'Poems Turned into Songs (KBS1)' on the 9th and 10th, and the special documentary 'The Future of Language (MBC)' on the 9th. On social networking services (SNS), activities such as 'Hangeul Week Acrostic Poems' and 'Replacing Loanwords with Pure Korean Words' will be conducted. On Hangeul Day, the 9th, major broadcasters will relay the '575th Hangeul Day Celebration Ceremony.' Performances by private arts groups, including the theater troupe Dokkaebi's 'Exciting Hangeul Journey' video distributed to daycare centers and kindergartens, and Wonju Cultural Foundation's 'Picture Book Journey with Hangeul,' are also prepared in various forms.
The commemorative events can also be experienced overseas, where interest in the Korean language has increased. The Korean Cultural Center in France, together with the National Hangeul Museum, is hosting a special exhibition titled 'Hangeul Design: Transformation of Form.' The Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles (LA), USA, is holding a calligraphy performance and workshop expressing the aesthetic and scientific excellence of Hangeul to commemorate the 'California Hangeul Day,' established in 2019. The number of overseas Sejong Institutes will be expanded to 270 by 2022, and the ministry plans to promote Hangeul worldwide by expanding online Korean language learning platforms and multilingual learning content. To encourage the use of Hangeul in various industries, events such as the 'Hangeul Creative Industry Idea Contest' will also be held.
