Iran: US Must Unfreeze $10 Billion to Restore Nuclear Deal
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Iran has demanded the release of $10 billion (11.87 trillion won) in frozen assets from the United States as a condition for resuming negotiations to restore the nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).
According to foreign media on the 2nd (local time), Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in an interview with state media, "The United States attempted to make contact at the United Nations General Assembly last month. If they want to seriously try negotiations, they must show sincerity regarding this," expressing this position.
Due to the freezing of assets by the United States, Iran is unable to withdraw funds held in foreign banks, including payments from crude oil exports.
Iran has so far refused direct talks with the United States, while Western countries have urged Iran to return to nuclear negotiations, accusing it of breaking promises and advancing nuclear development.
