The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, 2,086 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 318,105. The figure of 2,086 itself is the second largest for a Saturday (reported on Sunday) since the 26th of last month.
The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 162 from the previous day (2,248). Although this is somewhat lower compared to the 2,200 to 2,800 range of cases reported over the past week, it is difficult to interpret this as a slowdown in the spread since the number of tests and confirmed cases usually drops significantly on weekends and holidays.
On the 26th of last month, a week ago, the number of confirmed cases unusually surged to the 2,700 range due to the impact of the Chuseok holiday, marking the highest weekend figure.
Looking at the infection routes of the new confirmed cases, 2,058 were locally transmitted and 28 were imported. The death toll increased by 3, bringing the total to 2,507.
The fourth wave, which began in early July, has continued for nearly three months. With cluster infections occurring nationwide, the daily confirmed cases have been in the four digits for 89 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases).
