13,736 Vaccine Adverse Reactions Over Three Days... 19 Deaths Reported

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Over the past three days, more than 12,000 new cases of suspected adverse reactions after vaccination have been reported to health authorities in South Korea.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 2nd, from the 29th of last month to the day before, a total of 12,736 cases of suspected adverse reactions after vaccination were reported.
By vaccine type, there were 6,106 cases for Moderna, 5,976 for Pfizer, 623 for AstraZeneca, and 31 for Janssen. By date, 4,371 cases were reported on the 29th, 4,123 on the 30th, and 4,242 on the 1st.
There were 19 new death reports. Among them, 10 had received the AstraZeneca vaccine, 8 the Pfizer vaccine, and 1 the Moderna vaccine. The Promotion Team plans to determine the association with vaccination through expert evaluations.
The age distribution of the deceased was 7 in their 60s, 4 in their 40s, 3 in their 50s, 2 in their 70s, and 1 each in their 20s, 80s, and 90s. By gender, among the 19 deceased, 14 were male and 5 were female.
Among them, 2 had underlying conditions, and one male and one female in their 40s had no underlying conditions. The remaining 15 are under investigation for the presence of underlying conditions.
As a result, the cumulative number of death reports as of midnight on this day rose to 713. By vaccine type, there were 372 for Pfizer, 308 for AstraZeneca, 22 for Moderna, and 11 for Janssen.
Including those who were reported with other symptoms but whose condition worsened to severe and resulted in death, the total number of deaths is 1,008. By vaccine, there were 534 for Pfizer, 433 for AstraZeneca, 28 for Moderna, and 13 for Janssen.
There were 43 additional suspected reports related to 'anaphylaxis,' a severe systemic allergic reaction. Among these, 23 were for Pfizer and 20 for Moderna.
Major adverse reaction cases, including 'special interest adverse reactions,' ICU admissions, life-threatening conditions, permanent disabilities, and sequelae, increased by 278 cases (165 for Pfizer, 64 for Moderna, 47 for AstraZeneca, and 2 for Janssen).
The remaining 12,396 cases were classified as general adverse reactions, such as muscle pain, headache, fever, and chills.
Suspected adverse reaction reports related to heterologous vaccination, where the first dose was AstraZeneca and the second dose was Pfizer, increased by 103 cases, bringing the cumulative total to 6,365.
Among the 103 new cases, there were no deaths or suspected anaphylaxis cases, but 5 major adverse reactions were reported.
Since the start of vaccination in South Korea on February 26 this year, a total of 283,392 suspected adverse reaction reports have been accumulated. Compared to the cumulative 64,714,459 vaccinations as of midnight on this day, this represents about 0.44%.

The adverse reaction reporting rates by vaccine are 0.58% for Janssen, 0.54% for Moderna, 0.52% for AstraZeneca, and 0.36% for Pfizer.
