[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A woman in the United States discovered a 4.38-carat golden diamond while visiting a park with her husband.
According to ABC News and other local media on the 1st (local time), Brad Berg from California found a diamond less than 40 minutes after arriving at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, which is famous for discovering small diamonds of about 0.25 carats daily.
Berg said, "I saw something sparkling on the ground. At first, I didn't know it was a diamond," and expressed joy, saying, "I picked up a gem that shone so brilliantly."
Experts from the state park appraised the gem and confirmed it was a 4.38-carat diamond with a golden luster. The expert explained, "On rainy days, diamonds buried in the ground come to the surface, and their surfaces reflect sunlight, allowing lucky discoveries like this one."
Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only park in the United States with a mining-type setup. It was developed in earnest after John Huddleston, a farmer, discovered diamond roughs in 1906. In 1972, the Arkansas state government purchased the land and established it as a park, allowing the public to mine for gems, which has led to frequent discoveries like this case.
