View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Construction to expand the road connecting Geocheomdo in Seo-gu, Incheon to Yakam-ri in Gimpo (Chojidaegyo Bridge) from a two-lane road to a four-lane road is set to begin in earnest.
This road is a major arterial road that carries a significant portion of traffic between Incheon and Ganghwa, but the two-lane road has caused severe traffic congestion, causing inconvenience for citizens traveling between inland Incheon and Ganghwa.
Incheon City signed a construction cost-sharing agreement with Gimpo City in 2017, and completed all administrative procedures for road construction, including the change of landfill purpose in the metropolitan landfill area, by August this year. Following the signing of the contract for the four-lane road expansion on the 1st, construction is scheduled to start within this month.
Out of the total project section of 6.47 km, Incheon City will prioritize construction on the 2.42 km section of the metropolitan landfill area under its jurisdiction, according to the agreement with Gimpo City.
The remaining section aims for completion in 2024, with administrative procedures such as road zone designation and implementation plan approval to be finalized through consultations with Gimpo City in the first half of next year, and construction will be promoted at an early stage.
