'Incheon-type Emergency Welfare' Selection Criteria Relaxed Extended Until Year-End... Living Expenses 1.26 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will extend the relaxation period of the selection criteria for 'Incheon-type Emergency Welfare' until the end of this year.
Incheon-type Emergency Welfare is a welfare system that quickly provides necessary welfare services to households that have difficulty maintaining their livelihood due to sudden crisis reasons but find it difficult to receive support under current laws and systems, helping them escape from crisis situations.
The original criteria for Incheon-type Emergency Welfare are households with income below 85% of the median income, property value below 188 million KRW, and financial assets below 10 million KRW.
However, since April last year, to respond to COVID-19, the city has lowered the income and property criteria eligible for benefits to below 100% of the median income and below 350 million KRW, respectively. This year, about 1,800 households and over 3,500 people have benefited.
The main support items are living expenses (1,266,900 KRW for a 4-person household), medical expenses (up to 3 million KRW per person), and housing expenses (up to 643,200 KRW for a 4-person household). Additional support items include education expenses (220,000 to 430,000 KRW per person for elementary, middle, and high school), winter fuel costs (from October to March, 98,000 KRW per month), childbirth expenses (700,000 KRW), funeral expenses (800,000 KRW), and electricity bills (up to 500,000 KRW).
Consultation and application are available at the district offices and eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare centers of the resident's address.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Amid the spread of COVID-19, citizens' unstable lives continue due to income reduction, unemployment, and business closures," adding, "To reduce income disparity and blind spots among low-income groups, the relaxation period of the selection criteria for Incheon-type Emergency Welfare will be extended from the original end of last month to the end of December."
