Korea-US Hold 8th Energy Security Dialogue... Discuss Energy Supply Chains and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 1st that Lee Dong-gyu, Director General of the Climate Environment Science Diplomacy Bureau, held the '8th Energy Security Dialogue' with the U.S. Department of State in Washington last month on the 30th.
The participants discussed and sought concrete cooperation measures on ▲national energy policies of both countries, ▲third-country and multilateral energy cooperation, ▲climate change and greenhouse gas reduction measures, and ▲supply chains.
Our side explained the Korean government's efforts for energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and emphasized the need for cooperation between Korea and the U.S. in related fields. The U.S. side evaluated our government's efforts and expressed a commitment to work together for global energy transition.
Both sides noted that this dialogue is the first energy sector consultation between diplomatic authorities since the Korea-U.S. summit and agreed to maintain continuous communication at all levels.

Meanwhile, Director Lee, who has been visiting Washington since the 28th of last month, also attended the '2021 KF-Atlantic Council Forum' jointly hosted by the Korea Foundation (KF) and the Atlantic Council on the 29th, where they discussed cooperation measures between Korea and the U.S. to address global issues.
